Hope Library's digital library does three things differently: how we choose books, how we measure reading level, and how classrooms read together.
Every book on our shelves isn't just an entertaining story — it connects to one of 12 core character values like passion, honesty, and respect. Whether it's a biography or a classic tale, we first ask: can a child read this and ask, "what would I have done?"
Passion, justice, responsibility, humility, diligence, self-control, respect, forgiveness, gratitude, obedience, sharing, honesty — each book is tagged with the values it teaches, feeding directly into KQCI Thinking Reading.
We favor biographies of real people and classic tales that have stood the test of time — real lives and history, not manufactured sentiment.
Sentence length and vocabulary are measured on a fine 30-point scale, so the same story meets each child at the right level.
Instead of guessing "this age reads this level," we test the child directly and recommend books that match exactly what they measured.
From preschool to adult, 30 fine-grained levels capture the real differences between children even within the same grade.
The 30-point score is translated into 14 bands from preschool through college, so parents and teachers can read it at a glance.
The moment the test ends, matching books appear — no separate searching required.
A teacher creates a class, and students join with a single code. The class reads the same book — or the same section — together, and shares their thinking through KQCI.
Creating a class generates a 6-character code. Students join instantly with that code.
Assign an entire book, or set "read up to chapter N" so the whole class reads the same section together.
Students' keywords, questions, character reflections, and ideas all surface on the teacher's screen — along with who has read how far.
